Kamar Plunkett, CEPA
Co-Founder & Wealth Management Advisor
For over 18 years, Kamar Plunkett has partnered with executives, successful business owners, individuals, families, and businesses to help them take control of their financial lives. As Co-Founder and Wealth Management Advisor at Iron Shore Wealth Strategies, he guides clients through a process built to organize their finances, clarify what their resources can truly accomplish, and translate that understanding into a personal, customized plan; one built to turn financial goals into reality, for this generation and the next.
That planning process is the product of nearly two decades spent inside some of the most respected institutions in the financial industry, each one adding a new layer to his expertise. Kamar began his career at AXA Advisors, applying insurance and investment strategies to protect executives working nearby in Midtown Manhattan. At Lenox Advisors, he built the foundation of the planning process he still uses today, by working with thousands of high-level executives at Fortune 500 companies as a benefit arranged through their Human Resources departments. He worked with them on complex financial, estate, and incapacity planning designed to protect them and the people they loved, whatever the future held. One of those relationships led to his next move. TIAA, a client of his at Lenox, recruited Kamar to become a Wealth Management Advisor within its own retirement system. There, he took on some of TIAA’s most complex cases, executives at major institutions and medical professionals, and provided financial planning and insurance guidance with a focus on asset management and comprehensive retirement income strategies. From TIAA, Kamar became Director of Investments at the United Nations Credit Union, helping build its international investment platform while providing individual financial planning to members of the UN, World Bank, and IMF. He was then recruited to Fidelity Investments, where, working with high-net-worth investors in the Private Client Group, he was selected to serve executives within Fidelity’s own system and met his future Co-Founder, Shara Thomas. The two were later recruited together to Edward Jones to help pilot the firm’s transition toward serving sophisticated, affluent investors, partnering with clients through comprehensive financial planning across the New York and national markets.
Across his career, Kamar has helped guide the financial planning of thousands of successful executives, professionals, business owners, and institutions. He has also earned his CEPA (Certified Exit Planning Advisor) designation, giving him specialized expertise in helping business owners plan a successful exit or transition. But his years inside some of the industry’s largest firms taught him something else: solving complex, deeply personal client needs isn’t always a firm’s top priority.
That lesson became personal in 2011, when Kamar helped his own father, an executive, plan his retirement. Although he had done well, his father often said had he received more thoughtful, personalized planning earlier in his career, he felt his current position may have been different. Those words have stayed with Kamar ever since. They’re why he shows up for his clients every day, to be the advisor his own parents were searching for, but never found.
That commitment to a purely client-centered advice is what led Kamar to co-found Iron Shore Wealth Strategies.
